During my hike i might have left the trail for some time, which is no advisable.
If you have more time - instead you could consider taking a shuttle bus around the plato through the valley.
There is also a sight seeing platform on the adjacent cliff overlooking the city. I haven't gone there but it looked interesting.
To save yourself 2km of walk you can take a shuttle from visitors centre to city gates, i walked.
