We very much loved and recommended this trail because it has beautiful views over the mountains, the villages and the sea along all the way. From higher elevations you might be able to see all the way to Gibraltar, if weather permits. We also enjoyed the picturesque little trail all the way (no forest roads), which is very comfortable to walk (with hiking shoes).
Casual walking time: 3 hours ascent. 1h45 descent.
We started off our day with breakfast at the bar VIRTUDES in Frijiliana (in the middle between the new and the old part of town). There is parking and a public bus stop nearby.
We would recommended to start your ascend there in downtown Frijiliana, because our proposed ascending trail goes on a public path through a very lovely private property with donkeys and sculptures in the beautiful landscape (before reaching the water reservoir). To follow this route take the GPS trail to your right after the first approx. 200m.
Alternatively you can park your car at the water reservoir (see waypoint) and thus safe 110m of ascent & decent.
A large portion of the trail goes along a smooth mountain ridge, with views to both sides: to the villages, cities & the sea in the south & the west; and to the prestine, uninhabited mountain ranges & valleys in the west & the north.
We tried two alternative descents after the water reservoir. Do not take the road (the middle track), as it is blocked. The alternative descent we took (and which worked well) is a little less steep than the ascending track and passes though beautiful white streets of the old part of Frijiliana.
