River to mountain plus a little plateau - For the 375th anniversary of the city of Montreal a walking route was designed to go from the Old Port to Mount Royal. I tweaked the route slightly to access some interesting landmarks not covered. The city route ends at the bottom of the Pine Street access to Mount Royal at the corner of Peel. This is a great entry point to Mount Royal. This route instead cuts through Rutherford playing fields and accessed Mount Royal trail from behind the residences at the top of University Street. Only a tiny taste of the Mountain before exiting at the monument, crossing Park Avenue and visiting a bit of the Plateau. I will suggest my guests return back to the Port via Blvd St Laurent.
Youville stables - Enclosing a pleasant garden courtyard, these low stone structures (1828) were built as warehouses for the Grey Nuns, and later used to store grain. The complex never actually served as a shelter for animals; however, it is thought that its present name derives from 19C stables that were located nearby. Restored in 1967.
