Descrição do itinerário
This short trail is on the Caribbean Island of Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago lie just off the coast of Venezuela in South America. The islands were populated by indigenous people well in advance of the Spanish colonization when Christopher Columbus arrived in 1498…
I started this leisurely walk along the Milford Main Road in Crown Point at 11.1586N & - 60.8346W at the Crown Point sign. You would walk west and turn right along Pigeon Point Road at 11.1585N & - 60.8355W. Local fruits, food, and drinks are available for purchase along this stretch of roadway.
Continue walking west the north along Pigeon Point Road. There’s lot of great photo opportunities along the stretch of beach that locals refer to as “Swallows.” This starts at 11.1589N & - 60.8384W and continues right into Pigeon Point Heritage Park. There is a small admission fee to enter Pigeon Point Heritage Park. The entrance gates are located at 11.1648N & - 60.8401W. This can be a place to drop anchor for a bit, have a meal and a drink, or just go for a swim.
Walk back the way you came toward Milford Main Road and turn right heading south. There’s a lot of bars and restaurants along that stretch of roadway. I walked into the entrance to Store Bay at the carpark located at 11.1555N & - 60.8378W. There are lot of local food stalls and bars at Store Bay. The beach is located at 11.1559N & - 60.8398W and is highly recommended.
From here you’d walk south along Store Bay Connector Road and turn right onto Store Bay Local Road at 11.1539N & - 60.839W. Stop into Fort Milford located at 11.1539N & - 60.8427W. Continue walking along Store Bay Local Road and turn right heading west along Sandy Point Road at 11.1512N & - 60.8433W. Sandy Point Beach is located along this road at 11.1513N & - 60.8454W. It’s a great beach for walking but it’s not recommended to go swimming.
This road becomes Lighthouse Road at the National Petroleum (NP) Storage Facility at 11.1496N & - 60.8444W. This is just a straight roadway skirting the airport fence heading east. The paved portion ends at 11.1488N & - 60.8331W but it continues along the airport perimeter fence as a grassy trail. This can be followed right to its end at 11.1481N & - 60.8232W very near to Kilgwyn Bay. If you look south-west on clear days you'll get good views of Trinidad. You’re able to walk along Kilgwyn Bay at low tide and this connects with Kilgywn Beach Road at 11.1479N & - 60.8147W. This is not recommended at high tide as the beach is impassible.
