How do I find trails on Wikiloc?

How do I download a trail from Wikiloc?

How can I upload a GPS track into Wikiloc?

How do I manually create a trail on Wikiloc?

Etiquette in Wikiloc

Above all, cordiality and mutual respect are essential in both private messages, forum posts and in comments and ratings (both positive and negative). The offensive behavior is not tolerated. Just treat others the same way you'd like them to treat you.

Always assume good faith. If you download a trail and is not what you expected, probably the author of this trail did not share it to annoy anyone but probably just could not do or knew how to make that trail better. GPS receivers are often complex to use and even with good will sometimes the "track" has satellite errors that make it difficult to follow. If a route disappoints you, you can indicate it in a clear way but always cordially in a review of the trail that will be seen by both its author and future people interested in that trail.

The most likely situation is that you download a trail and have a positive experience. We encourage you to share it with a simple statement of thanks to the author on the trail's page or even better, by making a positive review of the trail.

What is the UserRank on Wikiloc?

The goal of Wikiloc is being a place where everyone can share and discover the best outdoor trails anywhere in the world. To make this possible, people around the world share their best trails in Wikiloc. The UserRank is a recognition of this work and an indicator of the degree of contribution of each one of us to the community. The UserRank appears next to each user in the listings and gives an idea of the degree of participation in Wikiloc.

The main way to increase your UserRank is by sharing good trails as it depends largely on the TrailRank of your trails. There are other factors that will increase your UserRank like your number of followers. Even without trails you can improve your UserRank with simple actions such as filling out your user profile with your picture or by telling something about yourself for those who visit your profile or participating with comments and ratings of the trails you download.

In a few cases the UserRank may decrease by repeated negative evaluations to any of your trails or soon if others mark your comments negatively.

The UserRank is in beta and may be adjusted in the coming weeks.

What is the TrailRank on Wikiloc?

When you're looking for trails for your next outdoor trip using the world map, the advanced search or the Wikiloc layer in Google Earth, you want to see the best trails first. For that reason the best trails in Wikiloc appear at higher levels of zoom and high in the search listings, all other trails also appear as you approach a particular area with a lower level of zoom. In Wikiloc, trails are sorted by their TrailRank.

The TrailRank is a quality indicator value between 0 and 50 that can be increased up to 100 if the trail is highly valued by the community. The TrailRank is calculated considering a combination of aspects of each trail, for example:

  • If the author has included a detailed description of the trail.
  • The number of times that other people have marked the trail as a favorite.
  • Density of coordinates in the GPS track.
  • The number of photos associated with the trail or its waypoints.
  • How the community rates the trail.

Although we do not disclose the exact formula, there are parameters that the author can control (writing a detailed description, adding pictures of scenery ...) and others that it is the community that decides (ratings, favorites ...)

If you're an author, the best way to get a high TrailRank for your trails is to share interesting trails!

The TrailRank is in beta and can be adjusted in the coming months.

  3. Click on "Your settings page"
  4. Once in your settings page, you will see the options to change your user name or your email among many other preferences. Do not forget to save the changes at the bottom of the page.

If you just want to change your email, please visit the corresponding help section.

To delete your account please contact us at cancelaccount/at/wikiloc from the email account to be deleted. You must delete in advance the entire contents of that user (trails, photos and comments). The app stops working in my huawei mobile

Open the "phone manager" app in your huawei and then set the "power saving" in "normal".
Also, in the same screen of the phone manager, go to "protected apps" and choose "wikiloc" and "google play services" as protected (you can see the power manager app in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ7F8cDz54c).

Can I add waypoints to an existing trail?

The easiest way to do that is by uploading again the trail with all waypoints already attached. You can add a note to your followers in the description of the old route with a link to the new.

A more complex option to add waypoints to routes already published is to use the options to group / ungroup trails and waypoints. Create a new route with waypoints, then ungroup and delete the route leaving only the waypoints. You can then group those waypoints into the existing route.

I purchased a module and the App keeps asking me to buy.

Ensure that you are identified with the same user that made the purchase.

If you use Android double check that the app version is 2.1 or above.

If you use iPhone and made a purchase in the past try to tap on the restore button on the product screen.

Can I switch a pack I bought for iPhone to Android or vice versa?

Yes. Navigation Packs purchased from February 2014 onwards are compatible on all your Android and iOS devices.

I get a message "Purchases are disabled on the device"

This turns on and off in the iPhone settings. Just remove the restriction, purchase the feature and then you can re-enable it.

Is there a Wikiloc App for Windows Phone, Symbian, Blackberry or Firefox OS?

Not at this time. We are currently focused on the iPhone and Android platforms. We are a small team but we hope to support more platforms in the future.

I can not login from my Android.

When you enter your user name check that you type it by your own (if you use the Android autocomplete feature it might be adding a trailing space) Also ensure that you type your username or password with the same upper / lower casing when you signed up.

Can I try before buying a pack?

Yes. You can save a route recorded by you and then open it from "Saved trails" and tap on the button "Follow this trail". For iPhone you can also import trails with iTunes, see next question. From Android, additionally, you can import routes you have in the phone’s memory. To do that you just need to have Wikiloc for Android installed and get a trail in GPX or KML file formats. When tap & press from any file manager you’ll see the option to import it into Wikiloc.

You can also tap on "Destinations" where you can test navigation features with featured trails from tourism agencies.

Why does the App need to read my Contacts Data?

When uploading a new trail you can optionally add your trail buddies that did the activity with you. To identify them you can write their email or their username at wikiloc and optionally choose from your contacts.
We hate spam as much as you do and we will never access your contacts without your explicit permission.

How to group your locations?

Activate the base track that will contain the waypoints by clicking on its name on the location's list of the left. As you can see in the figure below, I've clicked on the name of the track named "Font perduda" and this makes the track active, appearing on the map.

Up next choose the waypoints you wish to group with that track. You can do that by clicking on the icon next to each waypoint. The icon changes from to and the waypoints are appearing on the map along the track.

Once you get all the locations you want to group displayed on map, click on the Group link. It appears another page where you can review the options and create the group by clicking the "Create Group" button:

The group is created and from now on you will see it as a unique location. The icon to identify the type of location has changed to "Group" .

Additionally you can create groups with only waypoints or groups with only tracks that you want to appear as a single unit as well.
